January 27 - February 2

2 Kings 24 - 25; 1 Chronicles 1 – 5

Focus: Returning Evil for Good

Questions:

1. When the Babylonians conquered Judah, some of the poorest people were left in the land. Among them was Gedaliah, who swore to them that they would live well as long as they remained in submission to the king of Babylon. How did Ishmael, the son of Nethaniah react? Why do you think he reacted this way?

2. The half-tribe of Manasseh made great conquests with God’s help in battle. However, they committed great sin by seeking the false gods of those who were driven out before them. Think about a time in your life when God granted you a great victory. Now that time has passed, have you abused this victory for evil?

February 17 - 23

1 Chronicles 20 – 26

Focus: The Spiritual

Questions:

1. In the history of Israel, an unknown adversary was at work who was able to be unseen and unheard, yet influence the hearts of kings. Who was this according to 1 Chronicles 21?

2. What was stopped at the threshing floor of a Jebusite? This same thing made David fearful of going before the tabernacle in Gibeon.

February 10 - 16

1 Chronicles 13 – 19

Focus: Diligent Obedience

Questions:

1. How did David realize that the Levites were the only ones allowed to carry the ark of God? What had the Levites done wrong in the way the ark was transported when the ark was being brought to Jerusalem?

2. David wanted to build a house for God, but God told him not to do so. Why do you think this was? What was David’s response?

February 3 - 9

1 Chronicles 6 – 12

Focus: Descendants

Questions:

1. Name a few significant things you notice from the genealogies in 1 Chronicles. Do you recall the stories of the men and women who are given in the genealogies? (Refer back to Genesis if needed).

2. Saul’s kingdom would have been established forever over Israel, but his disobedience to God caused the kingdom to transfer to David, son of Jesse. What happened to the descendants of Saul?
