The purpose of this devotional is assist you in your reading by giving you ideas to reflect upon, however, be sure to take notes for yourself and ask questions that are not given here in this devotional.

Nehemiah 8 – 13; Esther 1
Focus: Rejoicing in God's Word
Questions:
1. When Ezra, the priest, read the law before the people of Israel, what was their reaction? What did the priest instruct the people to do?
2. The people of Israel do something significant on the twenty-fourth day of the month after having the law read to them. What did they do? What was important about their confession in regards to their exile?

Focus: Brokenness
Questions:
1. What observations does Job make about the life of mankind that you can relate to your own?
2. In Job’s answer to Bildad, how does he view himself in comparison to God?

Questions:
1. A festival was created by Mordecai. What was its purpose?
2. Job, a dweller in the land of Uz, was tested by Satan. What catastrophes fell upon him? What was his reaction?

Focus: Hatred of Good
Questions:
1. Haman was a ruler of princes in the kingdom of Persia. He was wealthy and powerful. Why did he hate the Jew, Mordecai?
2. There was an event in Haman’s life that caused him to go home, mourning along the way. What happened?
