The purpose of this devotional is assist you in your reading by giving you ideas to reflect upon, however, be sure to take notes for yourself and ask questions that are not given here in this devotional.

Psalms 55 - 61
Focus: Oppression from Friends
Questions:
1. David states that it is not an enemy that hates him and comes against him, but rather a close companion. How does he describe the actions of his companion who is now against him? (Psalm 55).
2. How do you react to close friends turning against you? David writes a psalm regarding the time King Saul sought his life in his own home. How does David react to this betrayal? (Psalm 59)

Focus: Accepting Dishonor
Questions:
1. David accepts dishonor when it is given to him. Why?
2. Asaph observes the people of Israel and states that his “feet came close to stumbling” (Psalm 73:2). What were the people of Israel doing that Asaph had to turn away from?

Questions:
1. What is the counsel of evildoers and why do you think this was a focus of David’s throughout many of his psalms? (Psalm 64).
2. How does the counsel of evildoers compare with David’s counsel with God?

Focus: God and Man
Questions:
1. Asaph describes the events of Israel from the time of wandering in the desert until the time of King David. Who or what is the focus of his writing? Whose perspective is the events seen from?
2. God is described in various ways in the Psalms that tell of His relationship with His people. Try to name five different ways God is described. What is significant about each way He is depicted?
