Sabbath

Bible Passage:

Genesis 2:1-3 [God observes the Sabbath]; Exodus 20:8 [God commands the Sabbath to be observed]; Hebrews 4:1-11 [The Sabbath is reinforced by believers in Yeshua].

Purpose:

God gave the Sabbath to mankind so that they may enter His rest and rest from their works, just as God did after creation.

How to Observe:

Rest. Do no work and do not make others work [Exodus 20:10; Exodus 35:5; Nehemiah 13:15-21; Isaiah 58:13-14; Jeremiah 17:21-23]. Good works limited only to healing, aiding, and protecting life and property are the only types of works allowed on the Sabbath [Matthew 12:11-12; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 13:15-16; John 7:23]. The Sabbath is a weekly, one-day event, so at sunset on Saturday, the Sabbath ends and work can presumably begin again. Do not intend on working immediately following the Sabbath, as this pulls the focus away from resting on the Sabbath and can even tempt one to not observe it properly.

Act:

Make the Sabbath holy by setting the time apart for God by resting and acknowledging Him. This can be done by gathering with other believers in worship of Him, prayer, or in learning about His Word, the Bible.
