Faith is no small matter when it comes to our relationship with God and how we live our lives on earth. Faith can truly change everything. What should I do? Where should I go? How should I behave? Why does this or that matter? Should I choose this rather than that? There are a multitude of decisions and questions that we have on a daily basis, but how do we answer them? If my life is no longer my own and I have surrendered it to God, then shouldn’t these questions be answered by Him? Yes.
I pray to God for direction in my life many times and He has always been faithful to answer. Just recently I prayed and God asked me to read Daniel 2 (the whole chapter). In this part of the book of Daniel, King Nebuchadnezzar has a dream that greatly disturbs him and so he seeks the insight and interpretation of his dream from the wise men of Babylon. The king makes an absurd request, however, and not only does he ask for an interpretation of his dream, but even before they interpret it, the king asks the wise men to tell him the dream (Daniel 2:2, 5). This was an impossible task for the wise men because they were reliant on clever interpretations and deceptive speech in order to convince others that their interpretations were true. But even if their intentions were honest, there really is no way they could have ever known what it is that king Nebuchadnezzar had dreamed. No amount of skill, preparation, or tricks could ever get them to retell the king’s dream to him exactly as he dreamt it.
The king becomes furious with his wise men because not only do they not answer his question, but they begin to beg him to simply tell them the dream so that they can avoid the impossible task of his request – to tell him his dream. In his anger, the king decrees that all the wise men in Babylon should be put to death since they were not able to tell him his dream and the interpretation. The king’s guards begin to massacre the magicians, the sorcerers and all other sorts of wise men in the kingdom. When they come to Daniel, who was an esteemed official, Daniel requests that the king give him some time so that he may declare to the king his dream and its interpretation. Daniel, unlike many of the wise men in Babylon, knew that He petition God to have mercy on him and provide the dream and its interpretation. Daniel had faith that God knew the answer to the king’s request even though it was impossible by human standards.
God answers Daniel’s prayer and reveals the mystery to him of the king’s dream. Grateful, Daniel worships God and goes to the king confidently to proclaim that it is God alone who was able to reveal the kings dream and provide a trustworthy interpretation.
"...God is able to reveal things that are impossible for you to know."
Daniel believed and trusted that God was capable of the impossible. By his own efforts, Daniel had no hope, doomed to be killed by the king’s guards. He had no power to do anything to save his own life. All the odds were against Daniel, except for the fact that he believed God was able to reveal the unknown.
Do you believe that God is able to reveal things that are impossible for you to know? If God can reveal the impossible secrets of a king’s dream, surely God is able to reveal the answers to decisions you have to make or to questions that you have. Daniel proclaimed about God, “It is He who reveals the profound and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him” (Daniel 2:22). God is capable of directing you and revealing things to you according to His wisdom. Ask of God and He will provide you with the answers you need. Daniel 2
